Pierre Aquatic Center pool scheduled to be resurfaced starting next month

The Pierre City Commission has accepted a bid (Feb. 14, 2023) to resurface the Aquatic Center pool at the Oahe Family YMCA.

Work done under the $208,500 proposal (from Horizon Commercial Pools) includes removing old plaster from the pool basin and replacing it with new plaster that is expected to last more than 20 years.

City Parks and Recreation Director Bryan Tipton says the pool will need to be closed during the resurfacing process. Work is expected to begin in late March and take about one month. He says once the work is complete, the brown staining on the pool basin will be gone and the pool should look like new.
