Tax cut hearings being held this week as South Dakota legislative appropriators getting ready to set next state budget

The Joint Committee on Appropriations of the South Dakota legislature set their revenue estimates last week (Feb. 13-16, 2023) for the next fiscal year. They are figuring on about $300 million available for the budget.

House Majority Leader Will Mortenson of Pierre says those estimates should continue to rise.

Mortenson says it’s a good time to think about tax cuts.

Mortenson says the Appropriations Committee took the middle road on the estimates.

Several of the tax cut bills will get their first hearing tomorrow (Feb. 21, 2023) in the House Appropriations Committee.
