The City of Fort Pierre is reminding residents that Emergency Snow Route rules automatically go into effect when there is more than two inches of snowfall– as is expected with this week’s storm.
When two or more inches of snow fall, parking is not allowed on any Emergency Snow Routes until after the snowfall has stopped and the emergency routes have been cleared from edge to edge. Vehicles not removed from Fort Pierre’s Emergency Snow Routes will be towed at the owner’s expense.
In response to the oncoming winter storm, the City of Pierre has also issued an emergency snow alert.
The alert is effective at 8am Wednesday (Feb. 22, 2023). During an emergency snow alert, motorists should use off-street parking on emergency snow routes to allow for safer and more effective plowing of the emergency routes. The alert will remain in effect until the snow event has passed and the alert is lifted.
The Pierre city street crew is prepared to begin plowing operations overnight as conditions warrant. Plowing operations begin with emergency snow routes and then move to residential streets.
