HIGHLIGHTS: A man in Houston got his truck back, after a parking garage allowed thieves without IDs to re-key it and steal it. The locksmith also didn’t require any proof that the vehicle was theirs.
FULL STORY: A couple of thieves came up with a brilliant plan this month . . . they’d go to an airport parking lot, pick out a sweet ride, claim they lost their IDs, have a locksmith re-key the vehicle, and then steal it. And it WORKED.
A man named Sean Coffee recently flew back home from a business trip, only to find his blue F-350 truck had been stolen from the Park Fast & Relax parking lot near Hobby Airport in Houston.
Employees told him that it was a misunderstanding. They said a couple claimed the truck was theirs, and they’d need to have it re-keyed. A locksmith was called, and after three hours, they drove off with the truck.
That’s despite both of them NOT having IDs . . . keys . . . parking tickets . . . or ANYTHING that could prove who they were, or that it was their truck.
The good news is: Sean got his truck back. Police say it turned up during an “incident” at a nearby hotel. It’s unclear whether they found the thieves.
Obviously, there are serious missteps from both the parking lot staff AND the locksmith.
And check THIS out . . .
Sean was told to go back to the parking garage and they’d provide him with surveillance footage of the thieves and the locksmith . . .
But when he got there, the manager told him that they are “private videos,” and he’d need to provide a court order to get them.
So they’re requiring COURT PAPERWORK to get the footage . . . of the thieves that they let re-key and steal a vehicle without ANYTHING to show who they were or that they owned the vehicle.
