(South Dakota Broadcasters Association)– It’s getting to the end of the legislative session when the Joint Appropriations Committee roles out the general appropriations bill. The committee does that at 9 a.m. today (March 2, 2023).
HB 1049 will likely be the last bill legislators consider before they go home for the main run of the 38-day legislative session next Thursday. The bill funds most of the state government for the next fiscal year starting July 1.
The House and Senate go into session at 1 p.m.
The House is scheduled to consider a bill that would provide property tax relief for owner-occupied single family dwellings. (HB 1141)
The Senate will consider a bill that would have all statewide candidates run in a primary rather than be selected at a party convention (SB 40). Though it is low on the calendar, the upper chamber may consider a bill that would prohibit the spouse of a legislator from being a private lobbyist. (SB 197)
Five days remain in the 38-day session. Next week the legislature meets Monday through Thursday.
March 27 is set aside to consider any gubernatorial vetoes.
