Time for a look at some more Feel Good Friday stories from the last week.
1. A cow escaped from a slaughterhouse in New York on Tuesday and won its freedom. Footage of it blew up online, and an animal sanctuary in New Jersey stepped in. So now it’ll live out the rest of its life on a farm. (Here’s a video.)
2. A 41-year-old mom in Ohio recently enrolled in college to keep a promise to her husband, who died in Iraq 18 years ago. He told her she was the smartest person he knew, and made her promise she’d go back to school someday. She enrolled at Bowling Green State in the fall of 2020 . . . finished her four-year degree in less than three years . . . and she’s set to graduate next month. She even joined a SORORITY, because it was something she always wanted to do.
3. How cool is this? A 66-year-old dad in England took a photo of his son every day for 30 YEARS, and just posted a video montage. It starts when he’s a baby, and ends on his 30th birthday.
4. Norbert, 150-pound black-and-white pig is turning heads. Vincent and Alicen Baran, owners of Norbert, said that Norbert is an expert at several tricks and lets him around the neighborhood practicing them. These tricks include, shaking hand and spinning, but the skateboarding is what really has grabbed everyone’s attention.
5. A woman lost her digital camera 13 years ago when she dropped it while tubing down a river in Colorado. But a fisherman just found it . . . checked the memory card . . . and the photos are still on there. He tracked her down online, and he’s sending it to her this week.
6. Brands including Puma and Under Armour are stepping up to help a 14-year-old football player in Michigan find shoes that fit. He’s already 6-foot-10, and was in the news after his mom said she couldn’t find cleats to fit his SIZE 23 feet. He’s getting fitted in the next week or two, and should have new shoes later this spring.
7. A guy who went to Dickinson College in Pennsylvania just donated $2 million to cover four years of tuition for five students from Ukraine. He’s also covering room-and-board, and all their expenses to get here. The school posted a great video where all five kids find out about the scholarships in a Zoom call. It’s obviously life-changing news. (Here’s the video.)
8. David Rush, who has broken already over 250 Guinness World Records to promote STEM education, just broke ANOTHER world record. He snatched 36 pieces of popcorn out of the air while popping the snack on the stove. Rush managed to catch 36 pieces in 1 minute, successfully earning the record for most popping popcorn caught in both hands in 1 minute. The previous record, 34, was set by fellow serial record-breaker Ashrita Furman in 2011.
9. Have you seen the video of the bystander who took down a criminal in New York last Thursday? Some maniac with two guns was running from the cops. So a random guy on the sidewalk got in his way . . . BODY-CHECKED him into a fence . . . and held him until police caught up. (Here’s the footage.)
10. An older guy in Ohio had his knee replaced last month, and he’ll be in a wheelchair for a while. So his daughter wanted to hire someone to build a small ramp to his door. But everyone was either all booked up, or too expensive. One contractor stepped up though. He took the job and did it in a weekend for FREE. His fiancée has been battling cancer, but she’s doing well. So he says they’ve been looking for ways to give back to the community.
11. A 14-year-old black lab fell through an open manhole in Portland, Oregon on Friday, and dropped more than 20 feet. But firefighters pulled her back up, and she wasn’t hurt. A layer of leaves at the bottom cushioned her fall.
12. A 29-year-old guy in Maryland named Marcus Moore has autism. But he hasn’t let it stop him from becoming a successful business owner. He’s worked at a grocery store for years. But he recently came home and told his dad he wanted to make enough money to be self-sufficient someday. So back in October, his parents helped him start a pretzel business called Moore Crunch. Now several stores in his area are selling them. You can also buy them online at MooreCrunch.com.
