It’s not only the end of the week it’s the end of the month. Let’s check out some Feel Good Friday stories today.
1. Cops in Florida were searching for a robbery suspect on Monday, and found a missing 75-year-old man with Alzheimer’s instead. He’d been reported missing the day before. They posted footage and audio from a police helicopter after they found him alone out in the woods next to a highway. It’s not clear if they caught the robbery suspect or not. (Here’s the video. They realize who it is around :53.)
2. Some Southwest flight attendants found out two passengers were getting married, and got them to do a practice ceremony mid-flight. They made the bride a wedding dress out of toilet paper, and had her walk down the aisle.
3. A hospital in Virginia posted a photo after a 28-year-old woman named Victoria Matthews gave birth. It was special because Victoria was the first baby born at the hospital after its delivery unit opened in 1993. (Here’s the photo.)
4. We heard this was coming a few weeks ago: Back in 2020, a 10-year-old in England named Max Woosey started sleeping in a tent in his backyard to raise money for charity. Now he’s finally back in his own bed . . . after doing it every night for THREE YEARS. He started on March 28th, 2020, and spent his last night in the tent this past Tuesday. He was inspired to do it after a neighbor died of cancer. The guy gave him the tent and told him to “have an adventure” with it. So he did. He ended up earning a Guinness World Record, and raised more than $860,000 for a local hospice care facility.
5. First responders in Longwood, Florida near Orlando pulled an elderly guy out of a sinking SUV on Tuesday. And the mayor happened to be stuck in traffic and saw it happen live. Now he’s planning to honor them for it. The guy they pulled out had a medical emergency and drove into a retention pond, but he’s expected to make a full recovery. They also saved his two dogs.
6. A dog and a goat at an animal shelter in North Carolina recently bonded and became best friends. So now the shelter is trying to find someone to adopt them together.
7. A no-kill animal shelter in Kansas City posted a six-minute video this month to get more cats adopted, and it worked really well. They wrote down different traits on scrap paper, like “loves to cuddle” or “great with other cats.” Then they had employees pick them from a hat, and tell people which cat had each trait. The video racked up over 400,000 ‘likes’ this month, and now almost all of the cats featured in it have been adopted out. (Here’s the video.)
8. A nonprofit in Minneapolis called American Service just sent a bunch of volunteers to Mississippi this week to help tornado victims. And seven of the volunteers are refugees from Ukraine. They all arrived here in the last three months and wanted to do something to give back.
9. The owner of a used car dealership in Wisconsin turned a weird misunderstanding into a good deed this month, and got some good publicity too. His name is Joe Greene. He owns a place called Budget Motors and started getting bad reviews this month, but didn’t know why. It turned out they were actually meant for another dealership that recently changed its name. They changed THEIR name to “Budget Motors” after a customer left her I.D. behind . . . and an employee was caught destroying and URINATING on it for some reason. Then Joe heard what the other dealership did, he found the woman online . . . asked her to stop by HIS Budget Motors . . . and gave her a FREE CAR. He also made t-shirts that say, “Here at the REAL Budget Motors, we won’t ever tinkle on your driver’s license.”
10. A guy in Oregon pulled an elderly woman from a burning house last month. They reunited this past Wednesday, so she could thank him for saving her life.
11. Earlier this month, a woman in Australia got bit multiple times by a blue-ringed octopus, one of the world’s most venomous animals. There’s no known anti-venom, so most people die. But somehow, she’s fine. Doctors aren’t sure why, but she had a little stomach pain, and that’s it.
12. A 91-year-old guy from Colorado just became the oldest person to hike across the Grand Canyon. He started at the North Rim . . . went down into the canyon . . . then hiked back up and finished at the South Rim. He hiked a total of 24 miles in five days.
