At Thursday’s (April 6, 2023) meeting of the Walworth County Commission, the board heard from several county residents who voiced their concerns about a proposed solar farm and how the commission, acting as the planning and zoning board, has thus far handled the drafting of an ordinance for the solar farm. Among issues brought up by the taxpayers in attendance were questioning the amount of solar industry knowledge and expertise held by the person from NECOG who is writing the ordinance; and whether or not it is a conflict of interest for Commissioner Kevin Holgard to be on the committee when he has a relative connected to the solar farm company. The discussion became heated at times, with the commission taking no action on any solar farm items on the day’s agenda.
Also at Thursday’s meeting, the commission approved changing the equalization date to April 18th at 11am so that there is time to advertise it.
Tax deed properties that were taken in October will be sold on the Courthouse steps on Wednesday, April 26th, at 10am.
The commission approved Charity Pepin to be appointed County Auditor effective April 11th, when she will take the oath of office.
The commission approved the appointment of Commissioner Duane Mohr to the Draft Board.
Sheriff Josh Boll informed the commissioners that Brown County has received the letter of conditions written up by Boll and Commissioners Scott Schilling and Justin Jungwirth. He said the Brown County Sheriff had emailed him, stating that Brown County will be in contact.
