FULL STORY: “The Super Mario Brothers Movie” had the biggest global box office opening of all time for an animated film. It made $377 million in worldwide ticket sales.
It made $204.6 million at the domestic box office, plus $173 million overseas.
It’s also the biggest opening of 2023 so far, and the top opening for a video game adaptation. “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” previously held that spot with $71 million.
In related news, Jack Black, who voices Bowser, released a music video for his ballad “Peaches”, in which Bowser confesses his love for Princess Peach.
