Here is the collection of Feel Good Friday stories we collected for this week…
1. A woman in England named Carly Burd grows vegetables and gives them to people in need. She’s fed over 1,600 people just in the last couple years. But this week, she posted a TikTok of herself sobbing after someone poured SALT all over her garden, just to be mean. It ruined the soil, so nothing can grow. But here’s the good news: People saw the video and stepped up in a big way. Last year, Carly started a GoFundMe to raise $5,000, and donations exploded this week. Last we checked, people had donated over 250 GRAND. (The GoFundMe is called “A Meal on Me with Love“.)
2. A dog that went missing on an island off the coast of Alaska just showed up in mainland Alaska . . . after walking across more than 150 miles of sea ice. His name is Nanuq. Someone posted photos after he showed up in a town called Wales. It’s on the western tip of mainland Alaska. He had a bitemark from an unknown animal, possibly a seal or polar bear. But he’s okay. His owners live on St. Lawrence Island, about 160 miles south. A pilot who was headed there let him hitch a ride, and he’s back home now. (Here’s a photo, and a video of his owners waiting for the plane. The reunion happens at 10:45.)
3. The internet just found the real-life Snoopy. She’s a mini sheepadoodle named Bayley that looks exactly like the cartoon character. Her owners posted a video of her for National Pet Day this week. People online are going nuts. (Here’s a photo.)
4. A bunch of people helped cops save a moose that fell through the ice on a river in Fairbanks, Alaska. Hoisting an animal that big out of the water wasn’t easy. It took six people pulling at once.
5. A barbershop owner in Cincinnati named Vernon Jackson is in the news, because he still goes to work on his day off . . . to do free haircuts for kids with special needs. No one else is allowed in the store, so they get his full attention. It’s especially helpful for kids who are sensitive to sound, or get nervous around groups. He’s been doing it since 2021 and donations help make it happen. Now he’s trying to expand the program and help barbershops in other cities do it too.
6. Buying shoes for growing kids is expensive. So a guy in India invented a new type of shoe for little kids that expands as their feet get bigger. The brand is called Aretto. Each size can stretch to fit two additional sizes. He just launched the company last year, so they’re only available in India for now. But business is booming, and it could help parents save a lot of money.
7. A 24-year-old guy named Cyril Bertheau just quit his job to spend 100 days riding a horse 2,300 miles from Austin to Seattle. He says there’s a family tradition on his dad’s side, where he has to go on a “great big adventure.” His great-grandfather started it. He could choose any adventure he wanted, and this is what he picked. He left on Sunday.
8. A dad in northern Canada found out his 16-year-old son needed a kidney transplant . . . and lost 79 pounds so he could be the organ donor. He was 274 pounds and had to get under 200. He’s now down around 195 and got approved last month. The surgery is happening in June. (Here’s a before-and-after shot.)
9. A woman in California gave her grandson a $10 lottery ticket for his 18th birthday, and it hit for $1 MILLION. It’s a ticket made specifically for gift-giving. There’s a bow printed on it and the words “The Perfect Gift”. (Here’s a photo.) He didn’t even have a license or I.D. yet, so he had to go get one before he could cash the ticket. He says he’s “pretty stoked” about it. He plans to use some of the money for college and save the rest.
10. Cops in New York rescued a dog they found in the sewer, and named him “Leonardo” after the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”. He’s now being put up for adoption.
11. A woman in Kentucky dropped her Volvo off at a mechanic after hours last month, and left the keys in a drop-box outside. Then thieves broke into the drop-box overnight and stole two cars, including hers. But a Good Samaritan eventually helped her get it back. She got a call from a weird number. It turned out the thieves abandoned her car. And a random guy saw it parked with the windows down while it was raining. So he thought that was weird . . . found a business card inside . . . tracked her down . . . and she got her car back. Unfortunately, all her belongings were gone. But cops eventually found the other stolen car, and almost all her stuff was in that one. The only things she didn’t get back were some folding chairs.
