APRIL 19, 2023:
WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Fox and Dominion Voting Systems have reached a $787 million settlement in the voting machine company’s defamation lawsuit. The agreement averts a trial in a case that exposed how the top-rated network chased viewers by promoting lies about the 2020 presidential election. Dominion lawyer Justin Nelson said the deal shows that truth matters and lies have consequences. Dominion had asked for $1.6 billion in arguing that Fox had damaged its reputation by helping peddle phony conspiracy theories about its equipment switching votes from former President Donald Trump to Democrat Joe Biden.

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — The judge overseeing Dominion Voting Systems’ defamation lawsuit against Fox announced that the parties “have resolved their case” and dismissed the jury just as the trial was to begin. The announcement on Tuesday (April 18, 2023) averted a prolonged trial in a case that exposed how the top-rated network chased viewers by spreading false claims about the 2020 presidential election. The sudden announcement came after jurors had been seated and attorneys were preparing to make opening statements. Terms were not disclosed for the proposed settlement, which still needs approval from the judge overseeing the case.

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — The Delaware judge overseeing a voting machine company’s $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News has delayed the opening of the trial. The decision raises the prospect that the two sides might settle before the eagerly watched case can go before a jury. Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric Davis suggested the sides try to mediate their dispute, according to a person close to Fox who was not authorized to speak publicly about the status of the lawsuit. Attorneys for both sides who appeared in court Monday (April 17, 2023) declined to answer reporters’ questions about the delay. The case centers on whether Fox defamed Denver-based Dominion Voting Systems by spreading false claims that the company rigged the 2020 presidential election.
APRIL 14, 2023:
WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — It’s start of questioning for potential jurors in the defamation trial involving Fox News. In the case being tried in Delaware, Dominion Voting Systems is seeking to hold Fox responsible for repeatedly airing false claims related to the 2020 presidential election. With jury selection closed to the media and public, Superior Court Judge Eric Davis announced by Thursday afternoon (April 13, 2023) that the interview process had produced a large enough pool from which to choose 12 jurors and 12 alternates. The seating of jurors will begin Monday morning, followed by opening statements from lawyers. Dominion’s $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit alleges Fox damaged Dominion by repeatedly airing false allegations about Dominion’s machines and the software they used.
MARCH 29, 2023:
NEW YORK (AP) — Fox News stars Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and Bret Baier are among the personalities who could soon be appearing in a much different venue — court. Both Fox and the voting machine company suing it for defamation have included each of those figures as potential witnesses if the case goes to trial next month (April 2023). The lists are no guarantee they will testify, and it’s still not certain the case will make it to trial. Fox has sought to prevent its 92-year-old patriarch, Rupert Murdoch, from testifying live, saying he already has given a lengthy deposition. But that will be up to Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric Davis.
