PIERRE – After five games of frustration, Pierre Governor Softball made history dramatically on Thursday.
Sheridan Nickolas hit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Governor Softball its first win in program history, 4-3 over Mitchell at T.F. Riggs High School.
With one out, Elly Broers started the rally with a single. She then stole second before Khalan Smart walked. Hannah Lemieux walked to load the bases before Nickolas’ winning hit.
Pierre (1-5) trailed 1-0 before a three-run fifth inning. Ireland Templeton tied the game with an RBI double and Jenna Bucholz hit the Governors’ first softball home run, a two-run shot to center field.
Mitchell came within 3-2 with a sixth-inning run, then tied the game with another run in the seventh.
Erin Leiferman pitched the complete game victory, striking out nine.
