MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Authorities say crews have removed two rail cars from the Mississippi River after a freight train derailed in southwestern Wisconsin, leaving four railway employees with minor injuries. BNSF Railway spokesperson Lena Kent says Thursday’s (April 27, 2023) derailment involved two of the train’s three locomotives and 10 cars carrying a variety of freight, including paint and lithium-ion batteries. She says neither of the cars that went into the river contained hazardous materials. Kent says four BNSF crew members were treated at a hospital for minor injuries and released. Crawford County Emergency Management Director James Hackett said Friday morning that the two containers had been removed from the river after boat crews secured them to the river bank.
