How about this for a Crazy Story?! Guide Jaco Joubert found a rare, pink-colored elephant at the Mala Mala Game Reserve in South Africa! Some elephants are pink due to a genetic mutation that causes a loss of pigment in the skin, causing the veins beneath the skin to be more visible.
“This particular afternoon, the entire herd entered the river to play and cool down. The little elephant, in spite of its tiny size, joined in on the fun,” Joubert said.
While the condition is rare, it is not harmful to the baby elephant. It may even help the calf regulate its body temperature.
