CHAMBERLAIN – The timely and good streak for Pierre Governor Baseball continued Wednesday.
Jack Merkwan and Brecken Krueger each drove in two runs as the Governors earned their eighth straight win, 6-1 over Harrisburg.
Krueger drove in the game’s first run with an RBI on a ground ball in the first inning. Jonny Lyons followed with a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 Pierre lead.
Harrisburg scored a run in the fourth, but Pierre (8-5) established its two-run lead again in the fifth on a Merkwan RBI grounder.
Three runs in the seventh for the Governors broke open the tight game. Merkwan had an RBI triple, Krueger hit an RBI single and Jett Zabel then scored before Krueger was caught stealing to end the inning.
Jackson Edman won on the mound. He pitched three and two-thirds innings, allowing a run and two hits. JJ Bucholz earned the save, striking out five in three and a third scoreless innings.
