Here are a some Good News stories making the rounds:
1. An eight-year-old boy in Michigan got lost in the woods, and survived for two days by eating snow. He was camping with his family last weekend, and got turned around while gathering firewood. 150 volunteers went looking for him, and eventually found him two miles from the campsite. He told “Good Morning America” he was worried he’d be stuck out there the rest of his life.
2. The world’s oldest dog just turned 31. His name is Bobi, and he lives in Portugal. His owner threw him a big party on Wednesday. According to Guinness, he’s the oldest living dog in the world, and also the oldest dog EVER.
3. A guy in Michigan hit a huge lottery jackpot, but almost didn’t cash in the ticket after forgetting about it not once, but twice. He bought the ticket and forgot to check the numbers for a month. When he finally scanned it at a store, it said to file a claim with the lottery office. So he thought he’d won a few thousand bucks. Despite that, he managed to forget about it AGAIN until his girlfriend found the ticket in his car a week later and asked if he’d checked it yet. It turned out he’d won $25,000 a year for LIFE. He ended up taking the lump sum of 390 grand.
4. A cop in South Carolina pulled a guy over on Sunday for drifting into another lane, but he wasn’t drunk. It was an older guy who’d just come from a dance hall, and he wanted to KEEP dancing. Once they worked out the ticket stuff, he offered to give her a dance lesson on the side of the road, and she accepted. Her chest-cam and dash-cam got it all on video. (Here’s the video.)
5. A guy in Minnesota says his Apple Watch saved his life. He was outside his house when someone driving by hit him with their car and took off. His Apple Watch immediately sensed the impact, called 911, and also texted his wife. He ended up with a broken tailbone and some cracked ribs, but he’ll be okay. The driver was a 17-year-old kid, who turned himself in later on.
6. The Humane Society saved a stray kitten in South Carolina that got its head stuck in a soup can. The photos they posted are pretty cute. It was a can of Campbell’s Chunky, so they named him Campbell.
7. A Facebook group called Random Acts of Crochet Kindness has over 240,000 members. And they’re in the news, because all they do is knit or crochet funny items, then leave them out in public for random people to find. Here’s an example: Someone recently crocheted a little potato character with eyes and a mouth, and put him in a bag with a note that said, “You found a positive potato!”
8. A California woman ended up homeless a few years ago, but talk about turning things around! She’s back in school, about to get her associate’s degree. She’s also getting married later this year. And to top it all off, she just hit the lottery for $5 MILLION. She says she plans to buy a house, and invest the rest.
9. CNN just did a story on a Girl Scout troop in New York called Troop 6000. All the girls in it are experiencing homelessness, or living in shelters. All the money they make selling cookies helps pay for them to go on trips, and get their families into permanent housing. A mom started it while living in a shelter with her five kids in 2017. Since then, they’ve raised over $1.6 million.
10. A group of dancing dads from the U.K. are in the news. To embarrass their kids, they formed a dance crew in 2012 called “The Outta Puff Daddys.” Now they post dance videos to raise awareness for mental health, and they’re a hit on social media with over 300,000 Instagram followers. 11. A 31-year-old Ironman athlete from England was vacationing in South Africa on Sunday and saved TWO lives. He was walking past a beach when he saw a teenager drowning. So he dove in and saved him. Then as soon as he got back to dry land, he saw another teenager lying face-down in the sand, and saved him too. He thinks the second kid tried to save the first kid, and started drowning.
12. Two Ukrainian refugees came to the U.S. with their two-year-old daughter last year, and they’re grateful to be here for more reasons than one. She’s three now, and was born deaf. But after they got settled in South Carolina, they took her to a hearing specialist, where she got fitted for a cochlear implant. There’s a great video of them turning it on last month. 13. A traffic camera in Fresno, California caught a guy on a motorcycle helping a family of ducks cross a busy street last week. He was pulling up to a red light when they darted in front of his bike. So he hopped off and stopped traffic to make sure they got across.
14. A woman on Staten Island just turned 104. Here are her three secrets: Lots of spinach . . . always taking the time to do her make-up when she goes out . . . and having one glass of beer every day.
15. A woman in Canada had to drop out of college in 2013 to focus on her sobriety. But now a decade later, she’s 29 . . . been sober nine years . . . recently went back to school . . . and will graduate as valedictorian of her class next week.
