PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Authorities say the second of two inmates who escaped from a Philadelphia prison earlier this month has been captured. The head of a federal marshals fugitive task force said 18-year-old Ameen Hurst was arrested Wednesday morning (May 17, 2023) in west Philadelphia after several deadlines for him to surrender came and went. Hurst and another man escaped from the Philadelphia Industrial Correction Center on May 7 by cutting a hole in a fence surrounding a recreation yard. The two men were gone for nearly 19 hours before officials knew they were missing. Hurst was being held on four counts of murder before he escaped. The other man was arrested Thursday night; he was being held on drug charges before the escape.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Authorities say they have captured one of two inmates who escaped Sunday night (May 7, 2023) from a Philadelphia prison. A U.S. Marshals Service official says a fugitive task force was conducting surveillance in an area of North Philadelphia where they believed 24-year-old Nasir Grant was staying Thursday night and they saw him leave a residence dressed as a woman. He was stopped in a car nearby and arrested without incident. The search continues for Ameen Hurst. The 18-year-old was facing four counts of murder when he and Grant cut through a fence and escaped from the Philadelphia Industrial Correction Center. Authorities say the men were aided by a woman in the city who was arrested Wednesday and has been charged with escape and conspiracy.
MAY 9, 2023:
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Authorities are searching for two inmates — one accused of killing four people — who were gone from a Philadelphia prison for nearly 19 hours before officials knew they were missing. Prison officials say the inmates cut a hole in a fence surrounding a recreation yard at the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center on Sunday evening (May 7, 2023). But several headcounts conducted Sunday and Monday reportedly showed that all prisoners were accounted for. Philadelphia Prisons Department Commissioner Blanche Carney says “protocols were not followed.” The inmates were identified as 18-year-old Ameen Hurst, who is charged with fatally shooting four people, and 24-year-old Nasir Grant, held on conspiracy drug and weapons charges.
