At Tuesday’s (June 6th) meeting of the Walworth County Commission, the board approved a Mobridge resident’s request to lower the speed limit on 10th Avenue West in Mobridge by the water plant, citing the safety of walkers and bikers, and for dust control. Signs will be posted and the lower speed limit will be on the gravel portion of the road, about four tenths of a mile.
Pot holes and drainage issues on part of 3rd Avenue West in Mobridge were also on the agenda. Walworth County Highway Superintendent Gary Byre shared his ideas on a plan.
Mobridge Mayor Gene Cox joined the conversation by phone and expressed his concern for what the City’s costs would be. The commission passed a motion to table the subject until the next meeting so that Mobridge can discuss the situation.
Walworth County Emergency Manager Jeff Jensen had an update for the commissioners on the Hiddenwood H & H Mitigation Grant.
Commission Chairman Jim Houck brought up discussion of an opt out. July 15th is the deadline if all commissioners are in agreement. The board would like to discuss the different options with the state’s attorney, and also see some numbers from the state audit.
There are three applications for the highway superintendent position. A special meeting will be held on June 15th to conduct interviews.
The Auditor’s office will be advertising for a new deputy.
