ABERDEEN – It’s a mostly different cast for Pierre Governor Football, but for the 2023 opener, it was the same result as the last 15 games.
In his first start at quarterback, Cade Kaiser passed for three touchdowns and ran for two Friday as Pierre opened its quest for a seventh straight state championship with its 16th straight win, 32-0 over Aberdeen Central at Swisher Field.
Kaiser was 15-for-22 with 204 yards passing and had 16 carries for 191 yards rushing.
Jett Zabel caught two of the scoring passes and had 10 catches overall for 140 yards. Cooper Terwilliger also had a touchdown reception and caught three passes.
Ryann Barry and Brianna Sargent, the Governors’ second and third female football players, both contributed. Barry kicked two extra points and Sargent handled the kickoffs.
Chance Carda had six and a half tackles (five solo) to lead the Pierre defense. Titian Winkler had five tackles, including four solo, and a sack.
Carson Stoeser set up one of Pierre’s touchdowns with a 75-yard interception return.
