Lantry sunflower producer gives mixed review of his crop at this stage of the growing season

Lantry, South Dakota, sunflower grower Shannon Depoy says half of his sunflowers are excellent and the other half are not good at all.

He told the National Sunflower Association that in the last week, they have received 6 inches of rain but before that they had little to nothing. Depoy says he’s had no disease issues, but did have to spray for red seed weevil. He says he recently saw more but does not plan on spraying again.
