FORT PIERRE – Bon Homme kept running and kept Stanley County away.
Quarterback Landon Schmidt rushed for 153 yards and three touchdowns Friday as Bon Homme built a 21-0 lead and held on for a 28-22 win over Stanley County at Ole Williamson Field, handing the Buffaloes (3-1) their first loss of 2023.
Schmidt had two first-half rushing touchdowns and Jackson Caba had one as the Cavaliers (1-3) built a 21-0 halftime advantage and held on to defeat SC for the third straight season.
Broch Zeeb threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter for Stanley County, one to Barret Schweitzer and one to Paxton Deal. Zeeb ran for the other SC touchdown. He ran for 66 yards and passed for 151 on 12-of-18.
Colton Brady, who had missed Stanley County’s previous two games with a right shoulder sprain, rushed for 76 yards on 14 carries.
Stanley County lineman Noah Baldwin was taken off the field by ambulance in the fourth quarter after hurting his neck. The move turned out to be one of precaution, as Baldwin has a sore neck and is not seriously hurt.
