Onida, South Dakota, farmer Ryan Olson told the National Sunflower Association that his sunflowers look above average overall, so far this year (2023).
He says the red seed weevils have been terrible. Olson says he had to spray 3 times and they would be gone for a couple days and then they were back.
Olson says his area has received spotty rain, with temps in the 70’s. Overall drier than normal. Most of his crop is close to full maturity. He hopes to start harvesting the second week of October.
