The Pierre City Commission is moving ahead with a sewer lining project.
Project Manager Gidget Palmer says the sewer lining project will repair about eight blocks of deteriorating underground line.
Commissioner Jamie Huizenga asked Palmer about this technology vs. what Pierre currently uses.
Mayor Steve Harding asked Palmer if they will be able to do some of the work on the sewer lining project during the winter months.
Sewer lining project proposals are due back to the city Oct. 2, 2023.

The Pierre City Commission is pushing two large utility projects forward. At this week’s meeting, it bid a sewer lining project, as well as electric system distribution improvements.
The sewer lining project will repair about eight blocks of deteriorating underground line. The contractor will line several stretches of pipe the city has marked as aged and in need of attention.
“The new line should extend the life of the sewer lines and prevent us from needing to open up the streets to repair those lines,” said Nick Waters, City Engineer. “We prefer to fix the lines while causing the least amount of disruption to the public as possible.”
According to Waters, the lining process will be used on sanitary and storm sewer lines in various areas throughout the community.
Proposals are due back to the city Oct. 2.
The electric distribution system project will replace large underground electrical lines that run along Highway 14 between Garfield Avenue and Euclid Avenue.
“These are older lines that a recent study identified for replacement,” said Brad Palmer, City Utilities Director. “In the last 10 years or so, we have replaced most of our aging equipment. This is one of the few remaining pieces that needs upgraded.”
Palmer went on to say that the ongoing improvements of city electric infrastructure keep Pierre one of the most reliable electric distributors in the nation.
Proposals are due back to the city Oct. 12.
