PIERRE – Pierre Governor Girls Soccer likely secured a home game in the first round of the AA playoffs Saturday with a 3-1 win over Sioux Falls Jefferson at the PILC Soccer Complex.
Jefferson’s boys dominated Pierre in a 7-1 victory.
Girls: Pierre 3, Sioux Falls Jefferson 1
On the day when the two Governor seniors were saluted, they scored two of the three goals for Pierre (7-3-1). Ryann Berry scored her goal of the season. Bria Sargent scored her third, all of which have come in the last two games. Another tally came on an own goal.
Pierre, who entered Saturday eighth in the seed points standings, moved up to seventh.
Boys: Sioux Falls Jefferson 7, Pierre 1
Jensen Hyronimus scored three goals in the Cavaliers’ decisive win. Mason Koch and Caleb Brink each scored twice.
Lucas Hight scored the only goal for Pierre (3-5-3) with just under 40 seconds left in the first half to cut Jefferson’s lead to 2-1, but a foul in the box seconds later led to a penalty kick goal by Koch and a 3-1 Jefferson halftime lead.
