Boomers and Gen Xers love when young adults “discover” something they did half a century ago . . . and THIS is definitely an example of that.
There’s a new “movement taking Gen Z by storm” called “SILENT WALKING.”
So what is it? It’s going out for a walk . . . and leaving your phone at home. That’s it, just walking without the distraction of a smartphone in your pocket . . . and without listening to music or podcasts . . . for at least 30 minutes.
It seems simple . . . but it’s hard to separate ANYONE from their phones these days, especially Gen Z. (It’s unclear if this also includes smart watches.)
Obviously, this was common for Boomers growing up, when there would be no reason to un-plug the old rotary phone from the wall, and bring it outside. (???)
The benefits to “silent walking” include: Heightened senses, including hearing and smelling . . . mental boosts from clearer thinking . . . and in some areas, it’s also safer, as you’re more aware of your surroundings.
The woman credited with popularizing this trend says that her boyfriend encouraged her to try it . . . but she was worried that it wouldn’t be possible due to her anxiety. But instead, it was an incredible experience.
