FORT PIERRE – Stanley County, off one of the football program’s best regular seasons in the last decade, will have its first home playoff game in three seasons Thursday against Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy in the first round of the 9AA playoffs at Ole Williamson Field.
Behind one of the state’s best 9-man rushing attacks and a defense that almost routinely forces turnovers, Stanley County went 7-1 in the regular season.
That running game, led by junior Colton Brady, who likely will eclipse the 1,000-yard mark for this season in Thursday’s game, averaged over 220 yards per game in the regular season. Head Coach Max Foth said that can lead to big advantages for the Buffaloes.
Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy, in the second season of their co-op, is 6-2 and features a spread look on offense, but also a very strong running game. Foth said that the Phoenix won’t be easy to defend.
Foth said that with the newness of a home playoff game for many of his players, the mindset going into the game could be just a little different than normal.
Coverage of Thursday’s game will begin at 6:30 on 1060/103.1 KGFX, with audio and video available at the KGFX page at the DRG News app & drgnews.com.
