One person is dead following a shooting near the YMCA in Aberdeen Wednesday. According to the Aberdeen Police Department the incident occurred in the parking lot of the YMCA around 12:17 p.m.
Captain Tanner Jondahl with the Aberdeen Police Department has more.
Captain Jondahl says police are still investigating the nature of the incident.
Jondahl says the suspect in this case has not yet been charged, but cooperated with police upon arrival.
Police say the shooting was unrelated to the YMCA and Avera St. Luke’s Hospital campus was placed on lock down status simply due to the close proximity of the incident.
Police in Aberdeen responded to an incident outside the Aberdeen YMCA Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 15, 2023).
Law enforcement sources confirmed the incident was a shooting.
According to eye witnesses who wished to remain anonymous, one person was injured in the shooting and police arrested a suspect.
The YMCA of Aberdeen posted to its Facebook page about the incident saying the scene is clear of any danger. Members and staff are allowed
to come and go from the facility, but are not to cross any police tap.
