RAPID CITY – A Pierre Governor Boys Basketball team that needs to gain experience will do so as this season continues. But this season has just begun, and the Governors have work to do.
They did turn what could have been a blowout for Rapid City Stevens into a competitive game Friday, but fell short as Stevens won 44-39 at Carold Heier Gymnasium.
Pierre, down by 16 at one point, hit 13 straight points to be down just 24-21 in the third quarter before Stevens (1-0) had a 13-5 run and a 37-26 lead through three quarters.
Minkah Hawley and Dayler Segrist led the Raiders with 13 points each. Shun-Zi White Woman scored 12.
Cade Kaiser led Pierre (0-1) with 10 points. Luke Olson and Jett Zabel scored eight each. Dawson Getz scored seven points.
