PIERRE – For the second straight game, the Pierre Governors battled back and forth with their opponent (Jan. 4, 2024) and eventually came out on top with the help of timely shooting and offensive rebounding. Dawson Getz nailed five 3-pointers and led all scorers with 17 points and Jett Zabel had another impressive double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds as the Govs topped Sioux Falls Lincoln, 52-46.
Neither team led by more than six points through three quarters. The Patriots led at all quarters stops, but Pierre outscored Lincoln 18-10 in the final quarter to improve to 5-2 on the season. Tate Shafer scored 12 points on four 3-pointers to lead the normally sharp-shooting Patriots, but the Governor defense seemed to force Lincoln into more rushed shots in the fourth quarter. A 40-25 rebounding advantage was key in the Governor win as well. Lincoln falls to 4-3 with the loss and will host Aberdeen Central on Saturday while the Governors head to Sioux Falls Washington for a 2:00 tipoff Saturday.
