South Dakota’s legislative session begins tomorrow (Jan. 9, 2024) and one topic that’s sure to come up is funding for county governments.
District 24 Representative and House Majority Leader Will Mortenson of Fort Pierre says he’s not worried that counties will go broke.
Mortenson says counties have ways to support themselves.
Mortenson doesn’t see an adjustment being made to the state freeze on property taxes during this legislative session.
The Study Committee on County Funding and Services will be introducing some bills to try to help counties with their finances.
