A 51 year old man from Pierre faces felony charges after a series of events that happened New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31, 2023).
Information from the Pierre Police Department says at approximately 9pm that night, patrol officers were dispatched to the report of an assault in the 300 block of E. 5th Street in Pierre. Officers were told that Michael Andrews and two females were in a vehicle driving around town, when Andrews assaulted the female driver of the vehicle. That female stopped the vehicle and got out. Andrews then began driving around with the other female, with whom he was in a relationship. He then began assaulting that female.
The vehicle ended up in a pursuit with law enforcement south of Fort Pierre, but the pursuit was called off due to the weather. The vehicle was later located after it crashed in Lyman County. Andrews and the female passenger were taken to the hospital in Pierre. While there, Andrews spit on officers.
Through further investigation, officers discovered Andrews had taken the vehicle without permission and would not allow the remaining female to get out. The female was injured by Andrews and also from the accident.
Andrews was arrested and taken to the Hughes County Jail.
Yesterday (Jan. 8, 2024), Andrews was charged in Hughes County with Aggravated Assault Domestic; Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer by Causing Contact with Bodily Fluids; 2nd Degree Kidnapping; and Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle—all related to the incident that occurred on December 31, 2023.
