PIERRE – The largest home wrestling event on the season schedule for the Pierre Governor boys wrestlers came Saturday at Riggs High Gym with the annual East/West Dual Tournament. Pierre was joined by Aberdeen, Brandon Valley and Harrisburg from Eastern South Dakota, as each team faced off against four teams from the west in Rapid City Central and Stevens, as well as Spearfish and Sturgis.
The Governors began the day with a 67-6 win over Spearfish and then topped Stevens, 42-29, and RC Central, 61-10. But the Govs suffered their first dual loss of the season in their final matchup of the day when Sturgis claimed a 36-22 victory, winning nine of 14 weight classes along the way. Four Pierre wrestlers – Jaxon Duchenaux, Lucas Chamberlin, Trey Lewis and EJ Boutchee – won all four of their matches, while Tristan Spencer wrestled three matches and won them all.
Pierre is now 6-1 on their dual schedule and sits in the second seed behind Sturgis now in the state power rankings. The top eight seeds at the end of the season will compete in the State Dual Tournament February 10 in Brookings.
