The Fort Pierre Knights of Columbus chapter (Little Flower Council #6117) has rescheduled its annual free throw contest for tomorrow (Jan. 28, 2024) at 1pm CST in the Parkview Auditorium. Those interested in competing should plan to arrive at Parkview Auditorium at least 30 minutes ahead of the start time.
All children ages 9 through 14 are invited to participate. Contestants will vie for the championship within their gender and age group. Each shooter will take three warm-up shots and then 15 consecutive free-throw attempts. The competitor with the most made attempts in each group will earn the title of Council Champion and advance to district level competition. Those winners will compete for state honors. Winners from each age group will receive a commemorative basketball.
“The annual free throw contest is the Fort Pierre Knights of Columbus’ biggest event of the year,” said Fort Pierre chapter Grand Knight Austin Goss. “The event has been a pillar in our community since its introduction, and has been the perfect way for kids and parents especially to come out and have some fun!”
Fort Pierre’s local free throw contest is part of a global contest put together by local Knights of Columbus Chapters, the world’s largest Catholic fraternal service organization. Last year, 50 kids advanced from the local competition to the statewide competition.
