FULL STORY: There aren’t many things bigger than the Super Bowl . . . and that’s even before Taylor Swift got in the middle of it.
According to a new American Gaming Association survey, a record 67.8 MILLION Americans are expected to bet on Super Bowl 58. That’s 26% of U.S. adults. That’s also a 35% increase from last year.
Overall, people plan to wager a total of $23.1 BILLION on the Big Game, which is up from $16 billion last year.
46% of gamblers will make wagers online . . . 36% just put some money up casually with friends . . . 24% will participate in office pools, like those “squares” competitions . . . 14% will go through an actual bookie . . . and 11% of people place bets at a physical sportsbook.
For the record, bettors are nearly split on the outcome of the game with 47% planning to bet on the Kansas City Chiefs and 44% planning to bet on the San Francisco 49ers. (It’s unclear how many will bet on an alien invasion.)
(In the past, most gambling, especially online, was technically “illegal” . . . but that’s been changing drastically in recent years.)
(38 states and Washington, D.C. currently have live, legal sports betting markets. And 64% of Americans live in one of those markets.)
