Fueled by growth in the Western Hemisphere, South Korea and Australia, U.S. pork exports posted another excellent performance in February, according to data released by USDA and compiled by the U.S. Meat Export Federation. February pork exports increased 14% from a year ago to more than 250,000 metric tons (mt), while value jumped 15% to $685 million.
USMEF President and CEO Dan Halstrom explains that while it was another outstanding month for leading market Mexico, where pork exports are well ahead of last year’s record pace, shipments also trended higher to South Korea, Central and South America, Oceania and the Caribbean.
While February beef export volume was slightly lower year-over-year, export value climbed by 10% to more than $830 million. Western Hemisphere markets led the way, including a record-large month for the Caribbean. But Halstrom also sees an encouraging rebound in the Middle East and in some Asian markets, including Taiwan and Korea.
