A Pierre man has made his initial appearance in Hughes County Court on child sexual assault charges.
Matthew Tople plead not guilty to Sexual Contact with a Child Under 16, Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, Hiring for Sexual Activity and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Tople also denied a Part II Information accusing him of being a habitual offender on previous drug charges. He was being held on $75-thousand cash bond, but the judge changed it to a cash or surety bond.
Court information says the 12-year-old victim allegedly told investigators Tople inappropriately touched her up to 12 times and offered money to her through text messages to allow him to continue the contact.
Tople’s next court appearance is scheduled for mid-May.
