The $8.3 million construction project underway at Buchanan Elementary School in Pierre is making steady progress.
District Superintendent Dr. Kelly Glodt updated the school board at last night’s (Sept. 11, 2023) meeting. He says during a construction meeting just prior to the start of the school year, they thought Buchanan would be without air conditioning for the first week or two.
Glodt says there’s still a lot of work to do.
Once completed, the building will include a bigger lunchroom, intervention rooms for individual or small group sessions, an outdoor classroom space and a larger gym with direct access to the parking lot outside. Despite the change in layout of the building, they didn’t lose any parking spaces– and may actually add a few by the time the project is finished.
