PIERRE – The Pierre Governors hosted their largest track meet of the spring season with the annual Legion Relays on Monday (April 22, 2024) at Hollister Field and on the grounds of Riggs High School. The Governors won several girls and boys events during the meet that was rescheduled from last Friday.
Kali Ringstmeyer won the girls 200 meter dash, and she also teamed with Elliott Bertsch, Anastyn “BAYD” and Charlee Williams-Smith to win the 4×100 meter relay. Grace Richter had the top time in the 400 meter dash, while Stanley County sophomore Brianna Sargent placed third for the Buffaloes. And Reese Terwilliger, the reigning state shot put champion, won that event, as well as the discus throw.
In the boys events, Pierre was led by senior distance runner Jared Lutmer, who won both the 1600 and the 3200 meter runs. Colter Babcock won the javelin throw for Pierre’s only other event win.
PIERRE, S.D — The Brandon Valley girls easily won the girls team title at Monday’s (April 22, 2024) weather delayed Legion Relays. The Lynx scored 176 points, well ahead of Sioux Falls Washington (104.5) and Pierre (86). Custer (78) and Mitchell (68.5) were the top-five girls teams on Monday. Pierre’s Kali Ringstmeyer won the 200-meter dash (:25.50), ran the opening leg on the winning 400-meter relay (:50.51). She also ran the opening leg on the second place 1,600-meter relay (4:16.32).
The Brandon Valley boys scored 105 points, edging Pierre (103) and Sioux Falls Washington (95). Yankton (92) and Mitchell (72) rounded out the top-five teams. Pierre’s Jared Lutmer was a double distance winner, winning the 1,600-meter run (4:25.55) and 3,200-meter run (9:46.75). Pierre’s Colter Babcock won the javelin (156-06).
Next up for the Pierre tracksters will be the Al Sahli Invitational in Aberdeen on Friday.
