MAY 9, 2024:
Tax collections in two of the three major categories were up for the month of March 2024 in Fort Pierre.
City Finance Officer Roxanne Heezen says total general sales tax and “triple B”– or bed, board and booze tax– revenue are both up.
Heezen says total occupancy tax collections so far are behind 2023.
As to why the occupancy tax collections are down, Fort Pierre city officials can only speculate. One thought is an increase in the number of long-term stays. Any guest staying for 28 or more consecutive days are exempt from paying all taxes, including the occupancy tax.

Tax collections in all three major categories were up for the month of February 2024 in Fort Pierre, but two categories are running behind last year’s numbers.
City Finance Officer Roxanne Heezen says total general sales tax revenue is up about 4%.
Heezen says the total “triple B”– or bed, board and booze tax– is down about .5% for the year.
Heezen says total occupancy tax collections so far are about 5% behind 2023.

Tax collections in all three major categories were lower for the City of Fort Pierre during January 2024.
City Finance Officer Roxanne Heezen says the general sales tax revenue was down, but in line with the number from 2022.
Heezen says “triple B”– or bed, board and booze tax– and occupancy tax collections also decreased.
