MAY 2024:
U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier has sentenced a Sioux Falls, South Dakota, man convicted of Possession of Child Pornography. The sentencing took place on May 6, 2024.
Marc Jones, age 30, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100. Jones must register as a sex offender upon his release from federal prison.
Jones was indicted by a federal grand jury in May of 2023. He pleaded guilty on February 23, 2024.
The conviction stemmed from an incident on March 23, 2023, when Jones possessed images of child pornography on his cell phone. The images were taken of minor females exiting a shower. The minors were unaware of the photographs being taken. Jones was previously convicted in 2014 of 4th Degree Rape in South Dakota.
This case was investigated by the Sioux Falls Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper prosecuted the case.
JUNE 2023:
A federal grand jury has indicted a Sioux Falls man for two counts of Production of Child Pornography.
Marc Jones, age 29, pleaded not guilty.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 30 years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, life of supervised release, and up to $200 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
The Indictment alleges that on March 23, 2023, Jones knowingly employed, used persuaded, induced, enticed, and coerced two minor females to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing visual depictions of such conduct and knowing that such visual depictions would be transported in interstate or foreign commerce.
The investigation is being conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and the Sioux Falls Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper is prosecuting the case.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse, launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Jones was remanded to the custody of the State pending trial.
