A special promotion is taking place in May in honor of National Beef Month. The Beef It Up, South Dakota Campaign is a collaboration between Feeding South Dakota, the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation, the South Dakota Beef Industry Council, and the South Dakota Retailers Association to provide beef products to individuals facing hunger.
Nearly 73,000 South Dakotans do not have access to the nutritious food they need to thrive, and research shows that rural and farm communities have unique challenges that make food insecurity higher.
Lori Dykstra, Feeding South Dakota CEO said, “When grocery budgets get tight, people using our programs tell us that animal protein is one of the first items they stop buying.”
Beef is an important source of nutrients that are vital for supporting good health and is the most requested food item by Feeding South Dakota’s guests and agency partners. The Beef It Up, South Dakota Campaign will raise funds that will be designated by Feeding South Dakota to purchase beef that will be distributed through their programs across the state.
As the presenting sponsor Parker Freeze Dry, located in Beresford, will be matching donations to Feeding South Dakota in May in support of the campaign.
“National Beef Month is the perfect time for this campaign,” shared Blake Burwell, EVP of Manufacturing Operations at Parker Freeze Dry. “We are excited to join this effort and hope to see many donations that will help to provide this nutritious food to our neighbors facing hunger.”
