Based on June 1, 2024, conditions, South Dakota’s 2024 winter wheat crop is forecast at 42.1 million bushels, up 28% from last year’s crop, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Average yield is forecast at 54 bushels per acre, up 7 bushels from 2023.
Acreage to be harvested for grain is estimated at 780,000 acres, up 80,000 acres from last year. This would be 90% of the planted acres, compared with last year’s 76% harvested.
