If there was ever any reason to get excited about a Monday, this is it! The sports-gods have smiled down on us and graced us with, not one, but two championship games tonight. Both carrying their own dramatic storyline.
On the NHL side, we get Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Final as the Edmonton Oilers have clawed their way back from down 0-3 in this series and are now one more win away from hoisting the Stanley Cup. In their three consecutive wins, the Oilers have outscored the Panthers 18-5 and seemed to have figured out Panther’s goaltender, Sergei Bobrovsky, who was nearly perfect in games 1-3. The Oilers look to become only the second team in NHL history to come back from an 0-3 Finals deficit, the 1942 Maple Leafs the other team to do it. The Oilers pride themselves on never being out of a game, or series, and they are going to great lengths to prove it. Nothing gets more exciting than a Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Final, but when you mix in the circumstances of both teams trying to make history, you have the making of a memorable finish to this series. Puck drop at 7pm CT on ABC.
And to wet your whistle before Game 7 of the SCF, we have the Men’s College World Series’ version of Game 7 as the Texas A&M Aggies and Tennessee Volunteers find themselves in a winner-take-all Game 3. At the start of the CWS, it was ACC & SEC. But the SEC dominated as 3 of the final 4 teams came out of the conference and subsequently fill out the championship series. The Aggies have been unstoppable, going 9-0 in the CWS until yesterday’s 4-1 loss to Tennessee. The Vol’s look to keep that momentum going tonight as first pitch is set for 6pm CT on ESPN.
Enjoy this, folks! Rarely do we get two championships in one night.
