The Minnesota Twins are playing some great baseball right now, unfortunately for them, the Cleveland Guardians are playing equally as well. The Twins currently sit 6.0 games out of 1st place, but do hold a +1 game advantage in the Wild Card.
Before a well-deserved day off yesterday, the Twins went 3-3 on series wins for their 9-game western road-trip including taking 2 of 3 from the first place Seattle Mariners. Winning 6 of 9 on that trip, they return home tonight to take on a struggling Detroit team that is 8 games under .500. The Twins, though, have more than just a win on their radar. Minnesota currently has a living streak of 19-straight games with a homerun. On Sunday, Trevor Larnach kept that streak alive with what ended up being the game-winning homerun in the top of the 8th. The longest streak in MLB history came only a few years ago when the Yankees homered in 31-straight games.
With the All-Star break less than two weeks away, the Twins have an opportunity to carry serious momentum into second half of this season. With three of their final four series’ coming against teams in either last or second-to-last of their respective divisions (Tigers, White Sox & Giants), Minnesota can easily apply some pressure to the Guardians by shrinking the gap before the long break.
Twins vs. Tigers is set for a 6:40 CT first pitch tonight.
Below is the latest Twins press release as well:
