Unreal scenes at Notre Dame Stadium. A week after an incredibly impressive performance against Texas A&M, the Fighting Irish get stunned at home against Northern Illinois who was 0-14 all-time against top 10 opponents.
In a 16-14 defensive slugfest, NIU worked their way down the field with time winding off the clock to set up the go-ahead field goal with :31 seconds left. Notre Dame got the ball back but the Huskies defense stood tough and forced ND to attempt a 62-yard field goal to win the game. Like a kick earlier in the game, NIU blocked this one as well and the celebration ensued.
NIU Head Coach Thomas Hammock was crying tears of joy in his postgame conference, and understandably so as he just shook the college football world with what they call a “boneyard win”.
