Native American students at Southeast Technical College in Sioux Falls, may be eligible for a $3,000-$10,000 scholarship through a partnership with the South Dakota Native Homeownership Coalition (SDNHOC) and Lakota Funds.
The scholarships are geared to high-demand careers in construction and the trades. Eligible programs include associate degrees in:
- Architectural Engineering Technology,
- Civil Engineering Technology,
- Construction Management Technology,
- Electrician,
- Land Surveying Science Technology or
- Mechanical Systems;
Or, one-year diplomas in:
- HVAC/R Technology,
- Plumbing Technology and
- Welding;
- as well as General, Commercial and Residential Construction Certificates.
“We believe scholarships are an important part of supporting students as they become leaders in their careers and communities,” said Marcella Prokop, Director of Access and Workforce Opportunity at STC. “Through our partnership with the Native Homeownership Coalition, we have an opportunity to help students overcome financial and educational barriers and support both a skilled workforce and home ownership in our Native American communities across South Dakota.”
