Red meat exports have been strong for the United States in 2024, despite volatility and serious headwinds in major Asian markets.
U.S. Meat Export Federation President and CEO Dan Halstrom says pork is doing especially well.
USMEF forecasts U.S. beef exports are projected to reach 1.28 million metric tons, worth $10.5 billion, an increase of 5% over 2023.
As far as future trade markets for red meat go, Halstrom is optimistic about what President-elect Trump’s policies will be.
Halstrom says Trump has generally been supportive of agriculture exports.
A critical piece of export performance in a volatile year is the demand growth for U.S. red meat in Latin America. Halstrom says the U.S. must keep a close eye on its competition in order to maintain its current market share in today’s increasingly competitive environments.
