Bernie Sanders made a surprise appearance at Coachella. Lady Gaga played an epic set, Benson Boone brought out Brian May from Queen, and Weird Al made his Coachella debut during Yo Gabba Gabba’s set.
There were some big surprises at Coachella this weekend, and one of the biggest was Bernie Sanders . . . who hit the stage to introduce singer-songwriter Clairo’s set.
Of course, he wasn’t there for the music. He told the crowd, quote, “This country faces some very difficult challenges. The future of what happens to America is dependent upon your generation.
“We need you to stand up, to fight for justice. To fight for economic justice, social justice, and racial justice.”
Here are some more highlights:
1. Lady Gaga’s headlining set Friday night was epic, and some people are already calling it the best in the history of Coachella.
2. Benson Boone covered Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”, with a little help from Brian May himself. But the Internet is ripping the Coachella crowd for barely reacting when Benson introduced him.
It’s possible a lot of them didn’t even know who he was.
3. Weird Al Yankovic made his Coachella debut . . . joining Yo Gabba Gabba for the classic Muppet track “The Rainbow Connection”.
Also hitting the stage were Thundercat, Portugal. The Man, David Arquette as Bozo the Clown, Duo the Duolingo Owl, and the legendary Paul Williams, who co-wrote the song.
4. During Green Day’s set on Saturday night, their pyro accidentally lit a nearby palm tree on fire.
On Friday night, Billie Joe Armstrong made a special appearance during the Go-Go’s set.
5. Missy Elliott went full-on “Transformers”, starting her set as a car, before morphing into herself.
6. Charli XCX brought out some big guns for her set: Troye Sivan, Billie Eilish, and Lorde.

7. Weezer did indeed play on Saturday, despite the attempted murder charge against the bass player’s wife. They covered Metallica’s “Enter Sandman”.
8. A 20-year-old singer-songwriter named d4vd tried to do a backflip, and failed miserably.
