People in the Pierre and Fort Pierre area with personal or sensitive documents they need to dispose of have the opportunity to do that for free on Tuesday (April 22, 2025).
Dakota Data Shred– the company doing the shredding, recommends anything that has a signature, account number, social security number, medical information or legal information should be shredded. Other items they recommend shredding are address labels from junk mail and magazines, ATM receipts, bank statements, copies of birth certificates, canceled and voided checks, credit card bills, investment documents, employee pay stubs, employment records, college IDs, pre-approved credit card applications, receipts with checking account numbers, report cards, resume’s, tax forms, used airline tickets and utility bills.
Identity Theft remains one of the fastest-growing crimes in the United States. It has been ranked one of the top consumer concerns for several years. When you throw things away, anyone can open your trash container and look through the items you threw away.
Tuesday’s free document shredding is scheduled for from noon-2pm at First Dakota National Bank in Pierre (322 S Coteau Street).
