The new Walworth County Jail proposal is ready and a public meeting will be held in June. At Tuesday’s (May 20th) Walworth County Commission meeting, Commission Chairman Jim Houck said he is not sold on the jail being built in Mobridge.
Commissioner Randy Carlson also commented on the proposal.
Commissioner Duane Mohr wanted to know what the board thought of the proposed jail size of being a 32-bed facility with capability of expanding to 48, plus holding cells. Commissioner Justin Jungwirth said the number of beds should work.
The public meeting on the jail proposal will be held Tuesday, June 3rd, at 10:30am, in the courtroom at the courthouse in Selby.
Walworth County Emergency Manager Jeff Jensen and Selby Fire Chief Curt Rawstern discussed the May 11th fire just west of Selby. Jensen gave credit to everyone who showed up to help.

- Maureen Nelson from Grow South Dakota’s Sisseton office told the commissioners that their office in Walworth County has been busy with several investments, including housing lending, business loans, and some emergency services. Nelson mentioned that Haden Merkel of Mobridge is on their board.
